This was a must try spot recommended to me in San Diego and I am so glad this was one of the first things I tried! It was so good, I went back twice! It's important to get there early because a line forms wrapping outside later in the lunch rush. The good news is the line goes by really fast as they know how to handle crowds! The first time I went I ordered two Adobada tacos, then the next time I went I ordered three. The corn shells that each taco is served on are crisp, and don't break apart, but not chewy so the perfect combination. They call it a spicy pork, but it really isn't spicy at all but very flavorful. They come with an array of toppings too so each one packs flavor. The way the Adobada is spinning in the kitchen on the metal stakes is a sight to be seen. The first thing I thought was that it reminded me of the way Gyros are served in a Greek establishment. Tacos El Gordo is by far my favorite set of tacos in San Diego and I already miss it. They were affordable and quick which is the perfect combination to frequent an establishment. I cannot recommend them enough if you are in San Diego!

Been to the original location a bunch of times and decided to check out the downtown location. First thing I noticed were the prices, when did it get so expensive? But after going through the ordering process and sitting down, I thought the quality wasn't too different from the original. Only real difference was the parking being absolutely terrible around the area and having to park in a parking structure. If you're a big Gordo fan and don't wanna go all the way down to the border, this will scratch the itch

I've always heard the hype about TEG but I don't know if the price justifies the portion. Don't get me wrong, TEG is delicious and known for their adobado, but each taco is almost $4 which is SO expensive. You could get a similar taco elsewhere for much cheaper but I think TEG is a must-try if you're touring around SD. Came on a Wednesday at around 6 p.m. and the line was on the street. There are some tables outside and an eating area upstairs, but if it's crowded, you're going to have to hunt for a table. There's no designated parking lot downtown so you have to find street parking.

Long Line outside the door at 8pm on a Saturday night. It moved fast though. They also open quite late passed midnight. Authentic tacos. Must try!

Late night in San Diego right of passage is a stop at Tacos El Gordo. All locals recommend adobado tacos for this restaurant. First off the line for tacos at this restaurant were unbelievable. Literally a line around the block for most of the night. We didn't even CONSIDER the restaurant until 11 PM. We ordered adobado and carne asada tacos both were very good but I was not lead astray with adobado tacos as the first choice. Small taqueria with good flavor and tremendous following. They do offer garnish like radishes, limes, sauces for the tacos. Restaurant is hectic because of the large crowds so be patient. Line moves faster than expected. Some bench seating outside of restaurant.

Chato was amazing my sister in law lost her phone and he found it and was very communicative and helpful he gave us the phone with no problem. If you're hungry go eat tacos el gordo and ask for Chato!

Taco asada super good Taco abodabo was great too but I like the asada Came after a night of eating and drinking so didn't order much. Definitely need to come back to try all their other stuff. Gets pretty packed with the location

An institution in SD! I appreciate how late they're open and the speediness of the service given the lines. The chefs were all super nice when taking our order! I really liked my lengua taco the most, it was super fall apart and flavorful. The carne asada I was less impressed by; while it had a good smokiness it lacked overall salt and flavor. The carne asada fries were also a pretty small portion for $21! There is outdoor table seating but you need to be alert to grab whatever's open!
